Newborn safety is of utmost importance when it comes to newborn photography. As a new parent, you want to capture every precious moment of your family's next journey, but you also want to know that your baby will be safe at all times. As a mum of three boys, this is something I am hugely passionate about - every baby who visits the studio is treated like my own.
This means it's vital to choose a photographer who is knowledgeable about newborn safety and has extensive experience to ensure that your baby is comfortable and secure throughout your newborn experience.
I have been photographing newborn babies for over 8 years now and have captured memories for more than 500 gorgeous newborn babies and their families. From Day 1, I have been acutely aware of the importance of newborn safety. I untook extensive training with UK and International leading newborn photographers at the start of my journey and continue to do so even now. I have documented many of my safety procedures on my Newborn Safety page of my website so do have a look for more information (click here).
Example of safety during a newborn experience
As a member of the Master Photographers Association, I have been actively involved in their Newborn Certification. It is a rigorous qualification that requires a detailed document outlining all areas of newborn safety. It also needs to be updated annually to ensure all levels of safety are being maintained. I am actually in the process of completing my annual review now, which is why I thought it was time I wrote another blog about newborn safety.
I currently proudly hold the MPAs Newborn Certification with Distinction and I am hoping to maintain that again this year. Areas that are extensively examined include posing techniques, the use of Mum and Dad next to support baby where necessary, temperature control, and safe swaddling, to name just a few. Understanding baby cues is also a vital part of any newborn photography session. My sessions are also lead by baby and we take as much time as baby needs. I am also trained in newborn first aid and undergo regular update classes.
Newborn safety is a critical aspect of newborn photography. It should be at the forefront of any newborn session and its importance should never be underestimated. I was adamant before I embarked on my newborn photography journey some 9 years ago that I was going to train to the highest level. I know how I felt when my boys were newborn and every gorgeous baby who visits the studio is like one of my own....it takes me right back to when my boys were born. Therefore, I want every family to feel relaxed, enjoy every moment of their visit to the studio and know their baby is going to be safe at all times. With years of experience photographing newborns, and our safety practices are certified with distinction by the Master Photographers Association, you know this is definitely the case.
